The Pastoral Council required by the diocesan Bishop in accord with Canon Law, shall be the instrument through which a representative body of the People of God that is Holy Redeemer Parish, shall share with the Pastor and those who have a similar responsibility by virtue of their office, in the pastoral care of the parish and the mission of the Church.
Composition:
The Pastoral Council includes up to 11 members who are representative of the parish’s various constituencies.
Responsibilities:
A. Being a consultative body to the Pastor regarding all aspects of parish life and the mission of the Church.
B. Using prayer, discussion and recommendations to share in the pastoral care of the parish and Church.
C. Serving as a vehicle for open and constructive communications within the parish community.
D. Collaborating with the Pastor to make decisions concerning pastoral matters.
E. Identifying and calling forth the gifts and talents of the members of the parish.
F. Establishing clear and concise goals and objectives based on the needs of the parish.
G. Cooperating with and effectively implementing diocesan policies and programs.
H. Serving as a consultative body with regard to “extraordinary acts” of finance and administration as defined by the diocese.
Membership Criteria:
Every person who is Catholic, at least 18 years old, and a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, is eligible to serve as a member of the Pastoral or the Finance Councils.
The pastor, associate pastor, permanent deacons, and paid staff members are not members of the Councils, but may attend meetings as needed or as directed by the Pastor.
Except for pastoral appointments, all members of the Parish Pastoral Council shall be elected by the members of the parish.
All members of the Finance Council shall be appointed by the pastor in consultation with the Pastoral Council.
The Pastor may appoint members to the Pastoral Council. The total number of appointees may not equal more than one-third of the total Council.
At least one member of the Finance Council must be a member of the Pastoral Council.
The Pastoral Council shall have 9 or 11 members.
The Finance Council shall have at least three members.
