The Liturgy celebrated each weekend at Holy Redeemer is an opportunity for members of our parish to involve themselves more in the Liturgical celebrations by fulfilling one of the offices listed below. An invitation to consider fulfilling one of the liturgical offices is hereby extended. Read about the different offices below and consider becoming a part of that particular ministry. One may apply for more than one ministry.
OFFICE OF EUCHARISTIC MINISTER
To become a Eucharistic Minister the man or woman must be at least eighteen years of age, a member of the parish, and a regular attendee at the Sunday Liturgy.
Those seeking to fulfill this ministry are required to attend a general meeting of instruction.
OFFICE OF USHER
Any man or woman may become an usher, provided he or she is at least 16 years old, a member of the parish, a regular attendee at Sunday Liturgy, and able to be at Church sufficiently early to serve as greeters.
The primary function of the usher is to take up collections. The usher also distributes the weekly bulletin to parishioners as they leave the Church. The usher helps in seating parishioners, and in the orderly reception of Communion.
OFFICE OF LECTOR
A lector may be a man or woman, at least of high school age, a member of the parish, and a regular attendee at Sunday Liturgy.
A lector proclaims the Word of God to the assembly. Though experience in public speaking would be a valued asset, it is not a requirement. What is necessary is the ability to stand in front of an assembly and read publicly in a voice that is pleasant, able to be heard, and understood. Not everyone has this ability. If you feel you have this talent, you are invited to become a lector.
There will be a meeting or two in November to introduce this office and to explain what is required of a lector.
OFFICE OF OFFERTORY GIFT BEARERS
Those who fulfill this office do so as representatives of the assembly. They bring to the altar the offerings of the people signified by the bread, the wine, and the monetary support the assembly offers in the collection. In the early Church individuals brought whatever they wished to offer to the Church in procession to the priest who in turn distributed the offerings to those in need. Today those individual offerings are represented by the collection taken up prior to the offertory.
It has been a long tradition in the Church that families bring up the gifts. Any family of Holy Redeemer may become a part of this offering.
